Italian soprano Donata D’Annunzio Lombardi is one of today’s leading interpreters of Puccini heroines. Awarded the prestigious Albo d’Oro Puccini by the Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago in recognition of her portrayals of Musetta and Mimì (La Bohème), Magda (La Rondine), Liù (Turandot), Cio-Cio San (Madama Butterfly), the title role  in Suor Angelica. Her versatile roles include the title role in Maria Stuarda,Antonina (Belisario), Desdemona (Otello), Madama Cortese (Viaggio a Reims), Violetta (La Traviata), Micaela (Carmen), Adalgisa (Norma), Emmy in Der Vampyr (Marschner), and Thérèse (Les mamelles de Tirésias).  As testament to her skills as a performer and her studies at the prestigious dance school of Liliana Cosi and Marinel Stefanescu, she is equally at home with operetta and became known as a fine performer of such characters as: Anna Glavary in Merry Widow by F. Lehár, Hélene in La Belle Hélene by Offenbach, Mary Lloyd in La Duchessa di Chicago by Kálmán, and Cin Cin La in the operetta of the same name by V. Ranzato.

She has performed in the most prestigious theaters in Italy and abroad: Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Arena di Verona, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Michigan Opera Theater of Detroit, Opernhaus Zurich, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Théâtre Royal di Versailles, Théâtre du Chatelet, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Mann Auditorium of Tel Aviv and the Royal Opera House Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

She has collaborated with such conductors as: N. Bareza, O. Caetani, W. Humburg, A. Guingal, D. Renzetti, Lu Jia, E. Pidò, D. Oren, A. Veronesi, B. Bartoletti, J. C. Malgoire, Z. Pesko, J. Tate, R. Abbado, E. Queler, L. Maazel and P.Domingo; and has worked with such stage directors as: F. Zeffirelli, F. Zambello, J. Savary, G. Landi, L. Puggelli, L. Mariani, G. Patroni-Griffi, M. Scaparro, J. Miller, W. Decker, and P.L. Pizzi.

She was awarded in 2013 another prestigious award, the Gigli D’Oro in recognition of the high level of artistry and achievement in her versatile career and in 2012 “Singer of the Year” at the Festival Donizetti di Bergamo for her dual debut roles of Maria Stuarda and Antonina.  Under the auspices of the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, she was also awarded the prestigious Les Victoires de la Musique Classique for purity of vocal line in her Mozart interpretation.  Other awards bestowed upon her includes the special critics award “Domenico Danzuso” under the auspices of the Teatro di Catania and winning first prize in the “Francesco Paolo Tosti” International Competition, which led to her gaining recognition in the performance of Tosti’s chamber songs in Europe, Teatro alla Scala, Japan and America.

Recent and future engagements for 2014/15 includeDesdemona in Verdi’s Otello and the title role in Suor Angelica at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, her American debut at Michigan Opera Theater in Detroit as Liù and Cio-cio San, Adriana Lecouvreur at the Teatro Comunale di Sassari, Aida with the stage direction of F. Zeffirelli and her reprisal ofLiù with Arena di Verona at the Royal Opera House in Oman,  Suzel in L’Amico Fritz at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Mimì (La Bohème) at Astana Opera, Kazakhstan, and theCountess in Le Nozze di Figaro with Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
